What:

I bet as you're reading this, the screen is right in front of your face or possibly a bit lower than your face. Hmmm??? Well?? Is it? πŸ€ͺ

This means the muscles in your eyes are working in the EXACT SAME WAY they work throughout the majority of your day. 

​

Why:

Why does this matter? 

If you know me, you know I'm always encouraging novel, unfamiliar movements -- because the more ways we move, the more movements our nervous systems are familiar with. And that just means moving better and feeling better (to keep it brief!)

Well, look at these beauties:

Is it just me or are these muscles GAWRGEOUS?

Looking at this, you may be able to appreciate that as one or two of these muscles contract (shorten) they pull your eyeball into different directions! 

But how often are you using these muscles? These days so many of us spend HOURS just looking straight ahead at our screens. 

It's the ocular version of sitting all day and never stretching or exercising.

How:

How to bring more exercise to these muscles: just to change the direction of your eyes! 

For example, what if you read the rest of this email with your screen to the left of you so your eyes have to pull to the left? 

This can have major positive effects on your overall movement because where the eyes go, the body follows. So if your looking-up muscles are good and strong, then you can use that looking upwards movement to help with extension (i.e. backbends!)
